This one was a study commission of and for the same guy I did a recent portrait study of a few weeks ago. I'm really happy with the outcome and so is the client so that's great! I have so many ideas for upcoming pieces and also some commissions; this summer has been very productive! :D

Hope you like this and stay tuned for more art!

Mermaid's Haunting by LunarisLarva
Mermaid's Haunting
Hello everyone!

This is my entry for the GrimGloomTale 'Mermaids' contest. I had so much fun creating this piece and used my beautiful sister as reference. It's interesting because if you look at traditional depictions of mermaids they're always very pleasant, pretty and inviting combing their hair and so on. But not everyone sees them that way. In my piece, judging by the background, you can tell that this mermaid is not very nice(yes, she sank that ship and probably drowned most of the crew herself). I wanted to make her look quite feral and wild while still retaining a kind of otherworldly beauty and I'm really satisfied with the outcome!

Hope you like this piece! Make sure you check out the rest of the entries here, there are so many beautiful pieces. Wish me luck! :)

This is a quick study I did yesterday. I plan to do more of those mainly because it's a great way to test myself, improve my skills and also try to work faster in a shorter amount of time. Really happy with this one! Hope you like it too!

Luthien and Huan by LunarisLarva
Luthien and Huan
Hey everyone!

So I've been rereading the Silmarillion and just had to do some quick fan art. The chapter that tells the tale of Beren and Lúthien is one of my favourite parts of the book. I really loved the relationship between Huan, the Hound of Valinor and Lúthien and how he decided to help her on her quest to rescue Beren from captivity. Here's some info about the two of them for those who are not familiar with Tolkien's work, courtesy of lotr.wikia.com:

"Lúthien, also known as Tinúviel, was an Elf Maiden of Doriath, the wife of Beren Erchamion, and the most beautiful of all the Children of Ilúvatar that has ever lived. Her love of the man Beren, for which she was prepared to risk everything, even death itself, was legendary and lamented forever in song and story. She and Beren braved Morgoth's horrors, eventually winning the Silmaril and the respect of Thingol. Though their actions later resulted in both their deaths, their deeds won them the pity of Mandos and a second life in Middle-earth.

Lúthien was the daughter of Elu Thingol, King of Doriath, and his Queen, Melian the Maia. Throughout the years before she met Beren, she lived as all the Elves of Doriath did: in a state of perfect blissful peace. She was a woman of incomparable beauty and grace, with night-dark hair, sparkling grey eyes, luminous skin, and a clear heartbreakingly lovely voice that was said to cause winter to melt into spring - "the song of Luthien released the bonds of winter, and the frozen waters spoke, and flowers sprang from the cold earth where her feet had passed". She also often enjoyed dancing in the woods of the realm to the music of her good friend Daeron's flute. He himself soon came to love her jealously, but she did not return it."

"Huan was a great wolfhound of the First Age. He was given by the Vala Oromë the Hunter to his friend Celegorm, one of the Sons of Fëanor. Huan was as large as a small horse, and accompanied Celegorm on his huntings. When the Ñoldor under Fëanor rebelled, Huan went with his master to Middle-earth.

Huan had been granted special powers by the Valar, and was allowed to speak three times before he died. It was also prophesied that he could not be killed unless it was by the greatest wolf that ever lived."

"The doom she chose, forsaking the Blessed Realm, and putting aside all claim to kinship with those that dwell there; that thus whatever grief might lie in wait, the fates of Beren and
Lúthien might be joined, and their paths lead together beyond the confines of the world. So it was that alone of the Eldalië she has died indeed, and left the world long ago. Yet in her choice the Two Kindreds have been joined; and she is the forerunner of many in whom the Eldar see yet, though all the world is changed, the likeness of Lúthien the beloved, whom they have lost."

Love Looks not With the Eyes by LunarisLarva
Love Looks not With the Eyes
Hello, dA!

This piece was completely unplanned but I'm glad I did it. The work of the late Alexander McQueen is one of my greatest sources of inspiration and this headpiece was part of his posthumous collection from March 2010. I've been wanting to draw Naomi Campbell for a long time and she fit right into this idea. Not much to say about this other than the fact that McQueen's work transcended fashion and this is why I believe that any creative person should study him. Personally, I keep discovering new aspects of his craft every time I look into so the inspiration never ends.
The title of this piece comes from Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' and also served as the title for Anne Deniau photographic book of her 13 years photographing McQueen's shows.
